The Community Visitors Scheme
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government initiative that matches volunteers with older people who are at risk of loneliness or social isolation.
How can you help?
By giving as little as one hour per fortnight to visit with an older person in a residential aged care facility within the Salisbury, Playford, Gawler and Lower-Barossa Council areas.
We can arrange for you to volunteer in a mode that is most convenient for you:
- In person, either one-on-one or in a group activity setting
- Video calls through our virtual volunteering program
- Phone calls
- Letter and card writing
We make every effort to match volunteers and residents that may share a common interest, hobby, language, cultural or life experience.
We offer training and on-going support throughout your volunteering experience.
Who can become a Community Visitors Scheme Volunteer?
Anyone aged 18 – 100+ who is mature, empathic, kind, has good communication and listening skills and who is willing to provide friendship to a socially isolated aged care facility resident.
A National Police Clearance is necessary prior to beginning your CVS visits, please note that these checks can take 3 – 8 weeks to process.
